Aleix Espargaro continued his domination of the Open class at the eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland.
The eldest Espargaro brother was one of 14 riders to start from pit lane in Germany after a hectic start to the race, heavily influenced by a pre-race shower. Qualifying results counted for nothing as a result of this, the Warm Up lap becoming a race back to the pits.
Espargaro had a cautious start to the race, not wishing to push too hard through Turns 12 and 13, which were still quite wet. As the track dried Espargaro’s pace improved, the Spaniard eventually finishing in sixth position ahead of his brother Pol on the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 satellite bike. Espargaro heads into the summer break sixth overall, 20 points behind Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP).
“Anyway I’m satisfied with today’s result and happy to leave Germany with sixth place in the Championship. Now I will enjoy some holidays at the seaside to recharge the batteries for a strong second part of the season.”
