VALENTINO ROSSI EXPLAINS THE QATAR GRAND PRIX

Valentino Rossi rode back to the pits after he missed the Podium by 0.1s in the MOTOGP 2016 season opener at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar

It is thought to be that Valentino Rossi’s tyre choice of hard front and harder rear tyre options as opposed to his victorious team mate Jorge Lorenzo’s hard front and soft rare might have played the major antagonist in his failure to score a podium finish in the Qatari Grand Prix. Despite ‘The Doctor’ strong start and some fast laps at the end of the race, he was unable to keep the pace of the leading riders and was never really in podium contention.

As Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez and Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso started battling out each other for the second fastest spot, the closing corners offered Rossi some hope but Rossi was just beaten to the line with just 0.1s rubbing the Last rear winner a podium finish. We hope to see him bounce back in Argentina with a growing level of confidence as he did last year. Thanks to Rossi’s fourth and Lorenzo’s first, Movistar Yamaha MotoGP lead the Team Championship with 38 points courtesy of Lorenzo 25 points and Rossi’s 13
Valentino Rossi: “At the end it was a great race, the pace was very fast from the beginning to the end, but unfortunately I stayed behind and I didn‘t have enough speed to try and attack. I was there but I was never in the real fight, I was always a little bit behind. We need a faster pace and maybe the tyre choice can make some difference, but we don‘t know. Maybe with the soft tyre I could go faster or I could go slower. We arrived behind and unfortunately didn‘t get on the podium, but it was a good race anyway, with a good start. We are there, we have to work, but for sure we are competitive. Last year in Argentina was a great race, one of the best with a great pace and I was coming from behind, but this year it will be a different story, especially with the tyres. We need to understand our potential this year.”
