Putting his navigational skills to good use Portuguese rider Helder Rodrigues earned a runner-up result with his teammate Adrien Van Beveren closely following in third positionin the first full day of rally racing in the dunes of Morocco at Merzouga Rally Stage One, positive start for the Yamalube Yamaha Official Rally Team saw both its riders Effectively battling their way through a day of tricky navigation, Rodrigues and Van Beveren each got a taste of what lies ahead in the five-stage adventure to the finish of Merzouga Rally 2016. Being the 10th rider to leave the start, Rodrigues made a series of passes to eventually complete his run in a time of 2:50:46 – a little more than two minutes behind the stage’s fastest rider Stefan Svitko.
Adrien Van Beveren remained calm and focused even when faced with the challenging navigation during the day’s stage. Loosing precious time trying to locate a waypoint, the Frenchman reached the finish line having posted the third fastest time of the day
Kicking off early tomorrow morning stage two of the 2016 Merzouga Rally will see riders start their day with a short 31 km special test in dunes, before moving on to contest a second test of 150 km. A total of 341 kilometres will be run for stage two.
