MotoGP returns to Austria for the first time since 1997 and of all the 24 registered Racers only One – Valentino Rossi has raced in Austria but in the 125CC in 1996 and in a different layout
The RedBull Spielberg ring is a new preposition to most if not all the riders and they have reacted differently yet very positive to the Austrian Track
“The Red Bull Ring is a new circuit for everyone but in the tests in July we immediately got to grips with the track and we were always the quickest out there. The circuit is really nice and it adapts well to our Desmosedici GP. On this track I established a good feeling with my bike right from the start and this is a very positive aspect in view of the race.”
“It was a long break. I certainly rested a lot! I went on holiday but I continued to train. Now, however, I really want to get back on the track and do my best in this second half of the season. We have done good races up to this point. Some of them could have been better but we have proven that we‘re fast. The Austrian circuit is very nice and the tests went pretty well. The two long straights don‘t help us much, but during the race weekend we still have time to improve. We will do our best to get onto the podium.”
: “This summer break has been very useful for me to recover some energy and rebalance my focus. I had some vacations but I also trained a lot, because I wanted to be ready for this restart of the Championship. So far we have had positive results but we still miss some better placement, therefore we must keep on improving and take the best out of our machine. We had a test here in Austria in July and my feeling was positive; the circuit is very fast, with a sort of ‘old style’ layout which is pretty much an on-and-off. This means it will be very demanding in terms of engine performance, on this side the GSX-RR has improved a lot since last year but for sure competitors with more powerful engines will have it easier. At the same time, very fast corners will be suitable for us, so I think we should try to work on that area and finalise the best set-up possible so that we can play our cards.”
“After the summer break we get back into action in Spielberg, a place we were able to check out for the first time three weeks ago during a two-day test. I spent a few days’ time on the Balearic Islands to relax but then I started to train again to get in the best shape to face the second half of the season. It’s true that the situation is difficult because Marc is slightly ahead in the championship but we will do our best, as every year, to try and cut the distance. We will keep fighting until the end of the Championship”.
“The Austrian track adapts very well to our bike, with first and second gear acceleration and medium-long straights, and so for us it is quite easy to be fast. Even though we were very competitive in the tests, we will have to see what tyres Michelin will bring for the GP, because wear is very high here, you slide around a lot and the tyres will struggle to complete a race distance.”
