MOTOGP QUALIFIERS CANCELLED IN QATAR, MAVERICK VINALES ON POLE IN HIS DEBUT WITH YAMAHA

​An overnight rain, a storm and too much standing water at Losail International Circuit, cut short the MotoGP season opener schedule forcing Qualifying Practice to be cancelled as track conditions were judged to be unsafe for riders. Race Direction has decided that grid positions be formed from combined Free Practice stands.Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) will start from his first pole for Yamahafrom Team Suzuki Ecstar’s Andrea Iannone and reigning Champion Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) completing the front rowThe second row sees reigning Moto2 champion and MotoGP rookie Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) 4th leading Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) 5th, and Scott Redding (Octo Pramac Racing) 6thThe third row lines up the second Repsol Honda Team rider Dani Pedrosa, yet another MotoGP rookie Jonas Folger (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) and LCR Honda’s Cal Crutchlow.Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) heads up Row 4 in tenth with his countryman Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Racing) right behind him in 11th ahead of his former Yamaha team mate Jorge Lorenzowho debuts in 12th aboard the Ducati Factory Desmosedici GP17.
